Tricount alternative

A Tricount alternative that is not tied to a bank

Tricount is a popular free app for splitting group costs and is part of the bank bunq. MySharedXP is an independent alternative: it is not linked to any bank, keeps your groups in one account on every device, and adds settlement plans, spreadsheet import and optional Pro features.

The short answer

If you want an expense-sharing app that has nothing to do with a bank, MySharedXP is a free, independent alternative to Tricount. It splits costs four ways, works out who pays whom with as few payments as possible, and keeps every group in one account on your phone and computer. It is made by a small Dutch company and is available in seven languages.

Why people look for a Tricount alternative

Some groups prefer an expense app that is not connected to a bank or card offer. Others want an account that keeps every group, friend and balance together across phone and computer, or tools such as spreadsheet import, budgets and receipt scanning.

What MySharedXP adds

Every core feature is free:

  • Four split methods: equal, exact amounts, percentages and shares
  • A settlement plan with as few payments as possible
  • Excel (.xlsx) and CSV import per group, with a free template
  • Friends, invitations and one account on every device
  • 30 currencies, converted at the ECB rate
  • App in English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian and Polish

Moving a group from Tricount

Tricount’s new app no longer exports expenses; its help centre says to ask bunq support for a CSV export. Create the group in MySharedXP with the same people and import that file from the group’s menu. You check which column holds the amount, the payer and the date, and match each name to a member, before anything is saved. Settle up in Tricount first if you want to start the new group from zero.

Example: a dinner and a taxi

Kim pays €90 for dinner for three, and Lars pays €30 for the taxi home. Each person’s share is €40, so Kim is owed €50. Two payments settle the evening, and nobody has to work it out on a napkin:

Three friends, one evening
FriendPaidShareSettles by
Kim€90€40Receives €40 from Mo and €10 from Lars
Lars€30€40Pays €10 to Kim
Mo€0€40Pays €40 to Kim

Fair about the differences

Tricount can be tried without signing up. MySharedXP asks everyone to sign up, because that is what keeps balances in sync, lets friends see only their own groups and makes data export and deletion possible for each person.

Tricount also has native apps in the App Store and Google Play today. MySharedXP has a native Android app on Google Play and runs as an installable web app on every phone and computer; its native iPhone app is coming soon.

Privacy: no bank access needed

MySharedXP never asks for access to a bank account or card. Your groups are stored on AWS in the EU, encrypted in transit and at rest, visible only to their members, and never sold. Each person can download all their data or delete their account at any time.

Who MySharedXP suits

It is a good fit when:

  • Your group banks with different banks, or you would rather keep banking and splitting apart
  • You share costs in several groups at once and want them in one account
  • You want to import past expenses from a spreadsheet
  • You want extras such as budgets, recurring expenses or receipt scanning (Pro, or with a scan pack or a short ad)

Questions and answers

Is MySharedXP free like Tricount?
Yes. All core features are free. Ad-free costs €2.99 per year and Pro, with insights, receipt scanning, budgets and recurring expenses, costs €1.99 per month or €11.99 per year.
Can I move a Tricount group to MySharedXP?
Yes, through a spreadsheet. Tricount’s new app no longer exports expenses, but its help centre says bunq support can send you a CSV export. Import that file into a new MySharedXP group, check the suggested columns and match each name to a member.
Is MySharedXP connected to a bank?
No. MySharedXP is an independent app by a Dutch sole proprietorship. It never asks for bank access; you pay each other the way you normally do and record the payment in the app.
How does MySharedXP work out who pays whom?
It adds up what each person paid and what their share was, then matches the people who are owed money with those who owe it. The settlement plan lists the transfers; you pay each other as usual and record each payment.
Why does everyone need an account?
Accounts keep balances in sync on every device, make sure only group members see a group, and let each person export or delete their own data.
Is MySharedXP available in Dutch and German?
Yes. The app and this website are available in English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian and Polish.
Can I use MySharedXP in another currency?
Yes. Each group has its own currency, and single expenses can be entered in any of 30 currencies and converted at the European Central Bank rate of their day.
