If Splitwise’s daily limit gets in the way

According to its help centre, Splitwise’s free plan allows 4 expenses a day, which a busy trip can exceed. MySharedXP never limits the number of expenses, on any plan. The free plan covers up to 20 active groups with 20 members each, which is enough for most people; Pro removes the group limit.

When you want extras such as spending insights, receipt scanning, budgets and recurring expenses, Pro costs €1.99 per month or €11.99 per year. Removing the ads alone costs €2.99 per year.

Moving your groups over

You do not have to start from zero. MySharedXP reads the spreadsheet Splitwise exports for a group, suggests which column is which and asks you to say who is who, so each expense keeps its payer and its split. Rows that name someone who is not in the group are flagged before anything is imported.

• In Splitwise, export the group as a spreadsheet (CSV).
• In MySharedXP, create the group and add the same people.
• Open the group’s menu, choose Import expenses and pick the file.
• Check the suggested columns, match each name to a member and import.

How settling up works

MySharedXP adds up what everyone paid and what everyone’s share was, then matches the people who are owed money with the people who owe it, largest amounts first. The result is a short list of transfers, never more than one fewer than the number of people with a balance. Everyone in the group sees the same plan; you accept it, pay each other the way you normally do and record each payment, or mark them all as paid at once.

Privacy and where your data lives

MySharedXP is made by a small company in the Netherlands. Your groups are stored on AWS in the EU, encrypted in transit and at rest, and visible only to the members of each group. Your data is never sold, and you can export it or delete your account at any time. The free plan is funded by ads from Google AdMob in the apps, without the advertising identifier; any paid plan removes them.

When Splitwise may still suit you better

Splitwise has been around for years and has native apps in the App Store and Google Play today. MySharedXP has a native Android app on Google Play and runs as an installable web app on every phone and computer; its native iPhone app is coming soon. If your group already uses Splitwise happily and never meets the daily limit, there may be no reason to move.
