Splitwise vs Tricount vs Splid

All three split shared costs and work out who owes whom. The differences are in the free version: Splitwise’s free plan allows up to 4 expenses a day according to its help centre, Tricount says it is free with no ads and no limits, and Splid is free and needs no sign-up. Which one fits depends on how many expenses you add, whether everyone wants an account and whether you travel without signal.

Splitwise: the free limit

Splitwise’s help centre says free users can add up to 4 expenses each day. Splitwise Pro removes that limit and the ads, and adds receipt scanning, currency conversion, charts and search. Splitwise runs on iPhone, Android and the web, lets you enter expenses offline and can simplify debts into fewer payments.

If your group adds a few expenses a day, the free plan may be all you need. On a busy trip, with meals, tickets and taxis, 4 a day can run out; that is when people compare it with the others.

Tricount: free and ad-free, part of bunq

Tricount calls itself free with no ads and no limits, and you can try it without signing up. It works offline and syncs when you are back online, converts other currencies and has a Splitwise importer. It has been part of the Dutch bank bunq since 2022.

With its new app, Tricount ended its paid plan and, according to its help centre (October 2026), the export to CSV or PDF in the app. For an export you now ask bunq support.

Splid: no sign-up, made for travel

Splid needs no sign-up, lets you create an offline group in seconds and converts more than 150 currencies automatically. It runs on iPhone and Android. Summaries can be downloaded as PDF; its App Store listing marks the Excel export as an in-app purchase. It is made by an independent developer in Munich.

Which one to choose

Start from what your group needs most:

  • Many expenses, no subscription: Tricount or Splid
  • Nobody wants an account: Splid, or Tricount to try without signing up
  • Often without signal: any of the three; Tricount and Splid describe offline use in most detail
  • Many currencies on one trip: Splid or Tricount include conversion; Splitwise converts with Pro
  • Already happy with Splitwise and the limit is the only problem: Splitwise Pro

Where MySharedXP fits

MySharedXP publishes this guide, so here is what it does, plainly. It has no limit on expenses on any plan, splits four ways and settles with as few payments as possible. It reads a Splitwise export, so a group can move over with its history. Other currencies are converted at the ECB rate of each expense’s day for free. Everyone needs a free account; the apps add expenses offline and send them when you are back online. There is an Android app and an installable web app, and the iPhone app is coming soon.
